Arizona State

This is Gary Lane, Head Coach of Arizona State. I wanted to touch base and see if there are any candidates that would be interested in coming to play rugby at Arizona State. This is open to all Penn Athletes.
If you are interested, here are some of the facts:
1. We are building a program that stands for good academics, an excellent rugby education and world travel (playing rugby) and exposure to the National level age grade coaches and top collegiate all-star/all-American selectors.
2. We have a second semester scholarship program; which means players that commit to ASU, and do well, will be eligible for scholarship funds (depending on GPA) in their 2nd semester. The reason we don't offer it in the first year, is that we want students to commit to our program before they are given money.
3. Our Coaching staff are some of the best in the Country; I am a Level 3 coach, in the Elite CDP (I was with the last world cup coaching team in Mutation) and continually educate myself in conjunction with Nick Leah, University of Queensland Head Coach, Melbourne Rebel Assistant Coach and Australia Sevens assistant coach. Jason Payne a USA under 19 assistant coach and an assistant at ASU this past year, and Salty Thompson who is one of the programs technical advisors. In addition, we have another four assistants that help with the program including a strength and conditioning coach.
4. We travel every year to a great rugby destination. In the last four years we have been to Canada, Australia, Bermuda, and the UK/Scotland. Next year's trip will be back to Australia.
5.We are finalizing a rugby academy relationship and exchange program between University of Queensland and Arizona State University; this means anyone coming to ASU will be eligible to pay ASU fees and then travel down to Australia and attend the UQ rugby academy for six months to a year and go to school at UQ.
If there is any interest or if you would like further information, please let me know
Sincerely,
Gary B. Lane

Western State College

On behalf of the Western State College (WSC) Rugby Alumni, I'm writing this recruiting letter to you for distribution amongst your team. In an effort to bolster ranks of the Western State College men's rugby team, we are actively recruiting players from successful programs such as yours.
Western State has much to offer its students in the classroom, on the rugby pitch, and in its surroundings. The college is in Gunnison, which is in Southwestern Colorado approximately 4 hours from Denver. It is 30 minutes from the world-class ski resort of Crested Butte and is nestled in a mountain valley with endless recreation opportunities such as fishing, rock climbing, mountain biking, river rafting and more.
Academically WSC offers small class sizes, high teacher to student ratios, and a well-connected student body. Student’s get as much out of it as they put in. There are a variety of scholarships available for prospective students and you will find a few of them listed in the attached as well as entrance standards for the school.
From a rugby standpoint, WSC has a proud tradition of winning and a strong alumni network in place. WSC competes in the ERRFU DII competition and has eight matches each fall and spring. The club is unique in that it is run entirely by the players; there are boundless opportunities for leadership. We are looking for players with strong leadership skills as well as sound rugby skills.
Because of this model, players have found great success after graduation in the following industries: Financial Services, Technology, Retail, Medical, Recreation, Education, Publishing, and Defense. Their success after graduation is due in large part to their active management of the rugby club. The alumni of WSC Rugby are committed to helping the club function and succeed. We are further committed to assisting students with employment upon graduation.
If there are seniors in your ranks that have yet to decide on a school for next fall we would like very much for them to contact us. For your underclassmen and junior players, please give each of them a copy of this letter so that they will consider WSC when weighing their higher education and rugby options. All inquiries are welcome, they can email the Rugby Alumni Board at wscrugby@gmail.com
Yours in Rugby,
James Yack

Life College

See Coach Bart for a recommendation to play at this level and prior to speaking to Life. Undergrads will be looking at around 50% academic scholarship, that does not include books, accommodation, or meal plans. This is 50% of a full time student load of 12 credits putting the price of college close to a community college. As we run on a quarter system this is also beneficial as players can take classes straight through the year.
On the accommodations front we have renovated some student apartment housing. Players are divided up over these 2 and 3 bedroom places and the rent is balanced across the board. Players are looking at around $150 per month to stay in these. They are right next to the school within walking distance of everything.
The program itself is similar to any D1 college sport. A typical week would look like the following:
Monday- Day Core-gym, evening Strongman/skills- field
Tuesday- Day Plyometics-gym, evening team training-field
Wednesday- Day Core lift-gym
Thursday- Day- Stretching, plyometics-gym, evening team training
Friday- Yoga
Sat- Games
Sunday- Recovery protocol- yoga/pool sessions
Players are fitness tested every 12 weeks and placed in Hydrostatic testing tank for body fat comp. Some athletes and rep players are put through VO2 Max testing and blood work.
We have a full pre-hab/re-hab department as part of the schools High Performance Program. Players go in for injuries, pre-hab and receive full PT care and (of course) chiropractic care.
During the off-season we will put players through kinetic chain assessment and given a 6-8 week program to suit with the doctors of the Sports Training Department. This helps to get the muscles re-aligned and working together and helps prevent damage due to unbalance and overload during the season.
We have recently opened a new Olympic weight training gym separate from the school gym for athletes, purchases a 50 passenger coach for away trips, and will be upgrading the stadium field in the next year.
That's about it really. I'm on site full time coaching, we have 3 other coaches involved and will be bringing on more next fall.

Vassar College is trying to recruit excellent student-athletes to play rugby.
The Athletic Department here treats rugby as a varsity sport. A student needs to have a GPA of 3.5 or very close, a test score of 29 or more for the ACT or an SAT score of 650 for each component of the SAT. The average SAT score for Vassar (verbal & math) is 1350. Students are usually in the top 20% of their class.
I would like the opportunity to mail details of the college to individuals. Please have any of players contact me for further information:

Bart
Again thanks for taking the time to talk to me about rugby and the opportunity for the Penn High School players to look at Saint Mary’s College in California (about 30 minutes from San Francisco). We would like to extend our hand in any way to open the door to Saint Mary’s. Let me know what I can do to further this relationship. Our school is of a smaller nature in size but we compete in the college super division. We run 3 sides and train hard. Many scholarship choice make the school affordable. Please have your players contact either listed below-

Anyone looking for a change of scenery? Last year we made it to National Champs and placed in the top 8 for Division 1 Men. Unfortunately a lot of the senior players found this a great opportunity to retire. Due to this and because of injuries we lost 10 starters and a hand full of solid reserve and utility players. We are now looking to recruit. It isn't cheap to live out here--California--compared to Indiana but there are a lot of connections through the club, as is always the case with rugby.
If you know of anyone who is or could be up to the men’s division 1 level please contact me.
